Of Holidays [Advent Drabble 9/25]
Of Holidays

“I love this season,” Dongwoo said cheerily as he hung a sparkling ornament from a branch of the fake tree he had erected in their living room. Hoya grunted in response, not looking up from the book he was in the middle of reading. “It’s such a cheery time,” the other man continued happily talking and unbothered by Hoya’s seeming inattention.

Dongwoo hummed contentedly to himself as he continued to hang small bulbs with more sparkle than necessary from the branches. Hoya didn’t see a purpose to the fake tree that took up an entire corner of their already crowded apartment and would only be taken down a month later, but it made his mate happy and he would do just about anything for the other wolf. It wasn’t just the tree he didn’t care for, although that was somewhere near the top of his rather long list, it was the entire season.

Humans used this time as an excuse to party, gather together and exchange gifts. He saw no real point to the entire exercise, but then again it had been a long time since he had a family to call his own. Even when he had been human, his parents hadn’t particularly cared to celebrate any of the holidays since both been busy, his father with work and his mother with her social circle. Sure his nursemaid had always decorated a tree and tried to make it something special for him, but it had never been the same as what he had seen in the other families or read of in books. He had always been left a gift, some lavish expensive present from his parents, but never had they been there to open it with him. He had never cared, not truly seeing the need, not until Dongwoo. The man that made him rethink so many things in his life was clearly bound and determined to make him change one more.

A hand gently pulled the book that he hadn’t been really reading from his fingers and set it to the side so that Dongwoo had plenty of space to fill. He then slid onto Hoya’s lap and settled like he belonged – which Hoya personally thought he did – grinning when he pulled a sigh from Hoya’s lips. “What are you thinking about so seriously?” Dongwoo asked.

“Just you,” Hoya answered, knowing that he couldn’t lie to his mate since any werewolf with half a sense would be able to smell it a mile away. His hands slid up the other man’s leg, over the curve of his hip and flexed there lightly.

“What else?” Dongwoo pressed, knowing Hoya to well already for the man’s taste.

He sighed. “I don’t like the holidays,” he admitted, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to keep it from his mate anyway.

“I know,” Dongwoo replied, leaning in and pressing a kiss to Hoya’s nose. “But I’m going to change that if you will let me.”

Hoya thought it was cute, how Dongwoo was always careful not to ruffle his dominate side, to make it seem like he was the one in control, when really the submissive wolf had him wrapped completely around his fingers. “And how do you plan to do this?”

“I’m going to start with this,” Dongwoo declared, pulling a rumpled package from his pocket.

“Isn’t it too early for gifts?” Hoya asked, masking his dislike of the idea.

“It’s never too early!” Dongwoo declared, “Open it!”

Hoya sighed as he lifted his hands from his mate and accepted the package. His mate was bubbling with excitement at the idea of whatever it was and Hoya hated to admit that he would possibly never share the same excitement. Carefully he undid the colored paper surrounding whatever it was that his mate had bought for him. He knew he wouldn’t be able to lie to his mate about how thankful he was for the gift, but he was rather skilled at deceit.

As the paper fell away, the half formed thank you accompanied with praise vanished from his mind. “Dongwoo,” he whispered, pulling back the emotions that he never dreamed would be brought forth from a simple gift.

“I thought maybe we could start a tradition, an ornament a year?” Dongwoo told him.

“If we do that then we will need three trees,” Hoya returned, still attempting to find where his mind had vanished too.

“Someday we will probably need a thousand trees!” Dongwoo agreed.

“How I love you,” Hoya said suddenly. Cradling the ornament in one hand he wrapped the other arm around his mate’s waist so he could pull the man in for a deep kiss. They shared in the moment for an impossible amount of time, Dongwoo releasing soft noises of pleasure as Hoya took what was his.

“Move love,” Hoya murmured against the other wolf’s lips. “Let’s hang this on the tree.”

Dongwoo slid from his lap, making no effort to hide the effect they had on each other. He accompanied Hoya to the tree, encouraging his mate with soft touches to the man’s body as he carefully fit the string around a green branch. When he was satisfied with the position and safety of the ornament, Hoya snagged his mate once more and pulled them in tight together.

There on the tree, swaying slightly from the lingering motion, hung an obviously carefully home produced object. A pair of furred creatures, easily recognizable as wolves, seemed to be circling one another. One of the wolves possessed a rich auburn coat while the other was a warm chocolate brown with a single white paw. Yet the most eye catching part by far sat there between the two circling wolves, a shimmering crystal heart, a symbol of the relationship the pair now shared, fragile in appearance but just as strong as the reflection of the love it’s surface showed.

AN: Yay I'm caught up again! And I'm back to my OTP! I mean... I don't have an OTP... what is this silliness... Comments are loved!

bsdfkb;ewfjwke this is the fluffiest fluff that ever did fluff and I ADORE it! ALL THE COOKIES FOR YOU.

Seriously oh my goshhh this is so cute I cannot coherent *flailing*

Um um um, I do vaguely remember thinking back before my brain was overtaken by incoherency that it was lovely how we got to see a bit of Hoya's past and that I approve of how it's now even MORE Christmassy but now all I can think is WHY IS THIS SO PRECIOUS <333

*calms down, sort of* no seriously, everything was so perfect - Hoya not expecting the genuine emotions that appeared was my favourite part by far, so much adorableness! And that was the perfect ornament to give, too. Lol basically everything was perfect and nothing hurts and I'm just going to go try to reconstruct my heart from that puddle of goo on the floor over there now...

hehe Cookies!!!!!!

Hoya has a very cold past, but Dongwoo is going to warm all the parts of him, mostly without even meaning to. I'm glad that you enjoyed it. It was so fun to write.
